Assignments
Assignments are zine-making project kits that fit inside an envelope. We’ve included downloadable materials and a supply list for each assignment to make it easy for you—our dear TOOTZ librarians and leaders—to assemble and share them with your TOOTZ members. Assignments are meant to inspire creativity so that each member will return with a completed zine.
Is there an order to follow? Yes. But also No. Assignments follow a flexible order. Always start with the Zine of Introductions. Always end with the Zine of Accomplishment in Honor of Completion (Z.A.H.C.). You can choose the order and amount of assignments that go in between.
First Assignment: ZINE OF INTRODUCTIONS
This first assignment will help you know who your new members are. It includes reflective material for getting to know each other. It’s an easy starter zine to get everyone comfortable with zine-making.
Assignment: ZINE OF SECRET ABILITIES
This assignment helps members share talents and interests. It includes support materials for members to think creatively and write notes as they work up to making a zine.
Assignment: ZINE OF ANSWERS
This assignment is for two friends to interview each other and make zines. With the help of a friend, members see themselves in a way they might not think of on their own.
Assignment: TABULA RASA
This assignment is a launch-pad for enjoying freedom to create anything at all. Instead of “blank slates” to begin with, we share less intimidating “recycled plates” for your TOOTZ members to create with.
Last Assignment: ZINE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT IN HONOR OF COMPLETION (Z.A.H.C.)
This two-part assignment is the one to end with. It will help you celebrate the TOOTZ community you’ve created and the zine-making skills that they’ve built.
